service 04 — brand identity

look established before you are.

people decide whether to trust a small business in about a glance. a real identity — one logo that works everywhere, colours that hold up, a voice that stays the same — is the cheapest way to look like you've been doing this for years.

A brand identity kit of blank letterpress cards, clay and honey paper swatches, and a kraft envelope

people decide in a glance. give them a good one.

what you get

an identity that survives contact.

built for a truck door, a phone screen, and a one-inch stamp — not just a presentation slide.

01

a logo, plus its whole family

the primary mark, a horizontal lockup, a stacked version, and a single-colour icon for stamps and favicons. one logo is never enough for real-world use, and this is where most cheap identities fall apart.

02

a colour system, not a mood board

four to six colours with hex, rgb, cmyk, and pantone values, and rules for which pairs stay legible. tested against accessibility contrast so your website isn't unreadable in sunlight.

03

typography that's licensed

a display face and a working face, both cleared for web and print, with a set type scale. no fonts you can't legally use on a sign.

04

a voice, written down

how you sound, what you never say, and five example sentences. this is the part everyone skips, and the reason two posts by two different people read like two different companies.

05

guidelines you'd hand to a printer

a short pdf covering spacing, minimum sizes, what not to do, and the file naming. no 60-page manifesto — the pages someone actually needs.

06

the applications you need day one

business card, email signature, social avatar and banner, invoice header, and a sign or vehicle mock-up. laid out and exported, not left as your homework.

the process

how an identity gets made.

two to four weeks, two rounds of your feedback, one clear finish line.

1

we get the brief right

who you serve, who you're up against, and what you want a stranger to assume about you. we also collect what you already have, so we know what's worth keeping.

week 1
2

we show two directions

two distinct routes — not four variations of one idea — each shown in real use: on a sign, a phone, a card. you pick one, and we tell you which one we'd pick and why.

week 1–2
3

we refine the one

two rounds of changes on the chosen direction. the mark gets drawn properly, the type gets set, the colour gets tested where it'll actually be seen.

week 2–3
4

we hand over everything

every file format you'll ever be asked for — svg, png, pdf, eps — organised, named, and paired with the guidelines pdf. plus a call to walk you through using it.

week 3–4
questions

the things everybody asks.

i already have a logo. can you just tidy it up?

often, yes — and it's usually the better call if customers already recognise it. we'll redraw it properly, build the missing lockups, and put a real system around it. we'll also tell you honestly if starting over would serve you better.

how many logo options do we see?

two complete directions, each shown in context. more than that isn't generosity, it's a studio avoiding a decision — and it turns your choice into a survey. we always tell you which one we'd back.

what files do we actually get?

vector originals (svg, eps, pdf) for print and signage, pngs at multiple sizes with transparent backgrounds for everyday use, and a favicon set for the web. all named so you can find the right one in five seconds.

do we need a whole guidelines document?

if anyone other than you will ever make something — a printer, a sign shop, a nephew posting on instagram — yes. it's the difference between an identity that holds together and one that drifts within a year.

can you do this without a new website?

yes, and plenty of clients start here. an identity works on its own, and it makes the site cheaper and faster later because half the decisions are already made and documented.

ready to look the part?

send us what you have now — even if it's a logo from a template site. we'll tell you what's worth keeping. no pitch deck, no pressure.
